Most people land in Labuan Bajo and immediately think about boats, islands, and heading straight into Komodo National Park. And yes, that’s the main highlight.
But if you have even half a day to spare, exploring Labuan Bajo itself is something you won’t regret. It’s not a big city, there’s no pressure to “see everything,” and that’s exactly why it works. You just move around, stop where it feels nice, and take it slow.
Where to Go ???
A good place to start is Puncak Waringin. It’s easy to reach, no long hike, and the view opens up nicely over the harbor. Come late afternoon if you can it’s cooler, and the light makes everything look softer.
If you want something a bit different, stop by Gua Batu Cermin. It’s not a long visit, but the cave has its own charm. The way the light reflects inside is actually pretty interesting, especially if it’s your first time seeing something like this.
For a quieter moment, Bukit Sylvia is always a good idea. It’s simple just hills, sea, and open space but sometimes that’s all you need. It’s one of those places where you just sit for a bit longer than planned.
If you feel like being closer to the water, Marina Labuan Bajo waterfront is surprisingly nice. In the morning, it’s calm and perfect for a short walk or light exercise. By sunset, it changes completely people slowing down, boats coming back, and the sky doing its thing. Nothing fancy, just a really good atmosphere.
For a beach stop, you can head to Waecicu Beach (often called Wae Chic). It’s easy to reach and great if you just want to relax by the water without going too far. And if you’re chasing a proper sunset, Tanjung Bunga is one of those spots that feels a bit more local and less crowded perfect to end the day.
What to Skip (If You’re Short on Time) !!!
Honestly, you don’t need to do everything.
There are quite a few cafes and viewpoints around Labuan Bajo now, and while many are nice, visiting too many in one day just feels rushed. Pick one place you like, sit down, enjoy your coffee or meal, and that’s enough.
Same with viewpoints after two or three, they start to feel similar. Better to choose a couple of good ones and actually enjoy the moment instead of jumping from one to another.
Why It’s Worth It ???
It’s easy to treat Labuan Bajo as just a stop before the “real trip” begins. But spending a bit of time here makes everything feel more balanced.
You’re not just chasing highlights you’re actually experiencing the place.
A simple city tour works well, especially if you’ve just arrived or have some free time before your boat trip. No rushing, no strict schedule. Just a few good stops, some fresh air, and a slower pace before heading out to sea.
Make It Easy…
If you don’t want to deal with routes or timing, having a driver or joining a simple city tour can make things feel a lot more relaxed. You don’t have to think too much you just go, stop when you like, and skip what doesn’t feel interesting.
That said, getting around Labuan Bajo is actually quite easy. There are plenty of options depending on how you like to travel. You can rent a motorbike if you’re comfortable riding, or go for a car with a driver if you prefer something more laid-back.
If you’re just heading to nearby spots, online ride services are also available and convenient for short distances.
So really, it comes down to your style. Whether you want something fully arranged or prefer to move around on your own, Labuan Bajo gives you that flexibility.
And honestly, that’s part of what makes exploring this town enjoyable it’s simple, not overcomplicated, and easy to figure out as you go.
